Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras or Faschingsdienstag is celebrated in Austria today.
If Halloween is an excuse for Americans to dress in costumes and act silly, then Fasching is the Austrian equivalent.One usually sees lots of children and adults in various costumes.The traditional Fat Tuesday food are hole-less donuts filled with apricot marmalade called “Krapfen”:
I never usually eat those as just looking at them makes me pick up a few extra kgs, but perhaps today Ryan and I can share one.

This year our family decided to have some fun in the snow for Valentine’s weekend.
There could be no better place for us to go than Steeg, a nice little town near Hallstatt. The house we always stay in has a lot of history behind it. We found it about 5-6 years ago while traveling with Ryan’s mom and Fred across the Austrian mountains. We fell in love with it the second we saw it. It has a fantastic mountains view and really pleasant hosts. Ryan and I stayed in that house a lot and since it was also the place where Ryan proposed to me, we decided that it would be just perfect for Valentine’s day. Read the rest of this entry » -

As I was picking up Maya from school today, the teachers were telling me about Maya’s day, what she did, what she ate and how she was sleeping. Little did I know that this conversation with make me the happiest person on earth today.

Looking at this picture of Maya standing, makes me think how fast the time goes. I now realize that she is no longer a baby.
We are really thrilled that Maya’s hip dysplasia is now gone. We had to put her through another one year X-ray and orthopedic check up and the results were very good.
We are truly relieved that this problem has been fixed and the minute we left doctor’s office I told my baby girl that as of now she has no more excuses not to walk.
